I am building a new rig and I need a case that is quiet. The system I have now is so loud it gives me a headache. I am on a smallish budget though so something affordable is key. I have looked at some of the other posts, but the cases that were in my price range, I didn't see if they were quiet, and the ones I saw that specifically said they were quiet, were kind of high in price. Any advice here is appreciated. Thank you.

The Rosewill R5601 and the R6A series with doors. The Evercase 42x2 series cases are also some of the quietest stock cases - hard to find though. Newegg has some and eWiz sometimes have some. You may have to replace the stock fans with Yate Loons or similar low-noise models (or use a fan controller), but then most OEM case fans are junk. Plus you always need to pay attention to the components you use. silentpcreview.com is the place to find stuff that suits the noise nazis.
. If you're up for something very different, check the Arctic Cooling Silentium series. They come with custom modified Seasonic PSUs. The Silentium T2 or T2 Pro would be my choice if I was building a system that would fit within the parameters for the box. IAC, the price of the T2 is under $100.00 regularly (at svc.com - but shipping can kill if you live on the east coast - $30. If you live on the left coast, shipping is reasonable) which is good for any case with a top quality PSU. The original T2 which comes with a single HDD muffler and 350W continuous/450W short term PSU has been discontinued so you may find a bargain somewhere. The T2Pro which looks just the same has a dual HDD muffler and a 500W continuous PSU was just introduced this month. I don't know what the going price well be but the MSRP is $150.

.bh.

PS: The Arctic Cooling fans that come with the Silentiums are normally eerily quiet but are prone to shipping damage as the ceramic bearings are brittle. RMA them if the ones you get are noisy. .bh.

A case can come with quiet fans, or be made to minimize rattle and vibrational noise. To have a quiet computer, you need quiet components. You need to find out what's making the most noise and replace it. The cheapest way is to use a program called Speedfan to control the speed of the fans plugged into the motherboard, or buy a fan controller. Also, suspend your hard drive or place it on foam to help with seek and vibrational noise. Here's a basic FAQ I wrote to help you get started, though you still have to choose quiet components that will fit your budget.
