I just spent a few hours scrolling through old threads on choosing a wireless router. Honestly, they were mostly just product recommendations without a lot of discussion.

So, this post is two-fold. One, please direct me towards some good resources on wireless networking and wireless routers in general. I have some first-hand knowledge from my own network but any further education is always beneficial. I've struggled to find up-to-date information.

Second, the specific installation I am intersted in has a span from outer wall to outer wall of 120' (I believe) with one typical interior wall b/n the computer room and the main auditorium. Additionally, there are wireless microphones that get regular use in this same space (I couldn't tell you the exact frequency used at the moment...). So I am looking for a wireless router that can be used in this scenario, is compatible with a wide range of devices (encryption wise), has the ability to set up two separate white lists and or have one access with a white list and a different password with full access and is not too expensive.

For coverage purposes, it is probably possible (if needed) to get another wireless router configured as an access point in the drop ceiling and run CAT5 to it.

Thanks in advance!

Okay. So, while I was doing research my compatriot has been asked to stop by BestBuy and pick up a router (ugh!). So, I need recommendations on a wireless router ASAP (trust you guys more than GeekSquad). A nice all-rounder that's reasonably priced. Best Buy's prices seem high so I can afford to do some fast shipping too.

Thanks for your help!

P.S. Looked at WRT54GL at Newegg on sale for $50. Isn't n compatable...does this matter? Highly rated.

You need gigabit, or not?
What about wireless speed, what band(s) can the equipment use ?
If mics use 2.4GHz, then you would most likely run into some kind of issues...
As for getting things at bestbuy...well, make sure you get them to price match online prices from other stores that they allow.

A comprehensive solution for your question is Not a matter of running to BestBuy and buying a Wireless Router.

Mentioning a Linksys WRT54GL ( a 10 years old Wireless Router) indicates that you are too far from resolving an issue like mentioned in your post.

If you are sure that you just need an Access Point you should try this.
