Need quick help deciding on which laptop to get!?

It's clear, the Dell has the processor and extra 2 GB of memory, but it's not quite a laptop given the size. It's also refurbished, 90 days warranty. The link did not mention the display resolution, but I'm guessing 1600x900.

It's clear, the Asus has a better graphics card and being more portable. The downside is the display being your usual 1366x768. This has a 1 year warranty.

I think the questions are:
- Is processor performance important to you?
- Is portability important to you?
- Is display resolution important to you?
- Is the battery life important to you?
- Is the warranty important to you?
 
What's wrong with the 1366x768? And yes processor is pretty important to me, portability is a meh, battery life is also meh, i don't think asus needs a great warranty, they are great quality laptops from what I've seen and heard.
 
I absolutely love my 17.3" screen and will probably get an 18.4" next time. It is a little more cumbersome to tote around but the larger screen makes it worth it.
 
With the two choices listed and your response; I think you answered your own question and it leans towards Dell. The risk of refurbished is still the warranty, so if it breaks down on day 91, you may be out of luck. The Asus is a standard warranty.

Nothing is wrong with 1366x768 at the given price range and size, but of course a 1600x900 display at 14.x" may drive up the price a bit.

1366x768 is what you want on a 14" screen. Anything higher will make your text microscopic.
 
At the end of the day, I prefer Asus at the end of the day. I'm on an Asus U81A from mid 2009 and haven't had any issues. It is dated, but still adequate for university work.

I'm probably "spoiled" by a Lenovo ThinkPad T420 which has a 1600x900 resolution.
