I have a 5-gallon tank with a filter and pump. Inside it is my betta fish, Lou Williams.

I noticed a growth under Lou's eye the other day. He also seems depressed and he is not eating his food.

I have neglected him a bit, and haven't changed 25% of his water every week like I should have been.

My question is: should I just start with the routine cleaning, or should I go buy some little water drops?

I already use betta water conditioner but I am assuming there are some additional drops I can buy to help his eye?

hook a brother up

Is the growth under his eye white? Possibly ick? You'll possibly need to add an anti-biotic to his water.

The cost of a new betta fish = $2.56 at Petco
The cost of drops = $5-6-7-8 who knows?

You decide. Unless you're silly and get attached to fish.

It's the same colour as his face (dark blue) and there doesn't appear to be anything emitting from it.

Looks like his face just bulged up on one side.

lol he named his fish Lou Williams, I'm guessing he gets attached. OP: Request an ATOT Effect and start a charity fund for his medical attention! And do tell how a fish can look depressed? happy? aloof?

How old is he? It could be a tumah.

I would change 25% of his water and add some antibiotics to his water that you can get at the pet/fish store.

sounds like an infection. take him to your local pet store and ask? better to make sure what you do is going to help instead of just trying medications needlessly.

i actually have another one that is really healthy, but it's because he lives in a bowl and gets regular water changes and his whole bowl cleaned out.

the problem with the filtered tank was, i mistaked it for a utopia of fish cleanliness when in reality it was dirtier than the bowl.

i neglected the tank betta because i thought he was living in the lap of luxury. damn thing got so skanky that his eye blew out of his frickin head!!

i just dismantled and cleaned the living crap out of the filter and all the tank stuff.

i'm giving this guy a fighting chance but his head is JACKED UP.

looks like a fungusy-type of face explosion.

i'm pretty sure he's blind in one eye and maybe both... he just swam right by a delicious freeze-dried bloodworm.
