NEED QUICK ANSWER: What % is good for bail bonds?

Roommate's friend just got arrested, what's a good percentage of bail to pay for bail bonds?

We're getting 30% from some people, 15% from others, but have no clue...

What is a bail bond? I know that they say someone gets out on bail...or out on bond...I just assumed you paid the PD or bought a bond through them.

I'm confused.
