I'm trying to install win2k on my friends comp. Problem is he only has 32 megs of ram. Now I know there is a way to install Win2k on a computer with less than 64 mb. Can anyone tell me the procedure for doing so? I believe its a switch / when running the winnt.exe. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Well, its Winnt32.exe if you are using it from a 32 bit OS (win98), or winnt.exe if you are doing it from a dos prompt.

To your question though, I think that it would go though without any switch, just not recommended. If you want to make it faster I would recommend pulling all of the hardware other than vid card, CD, floppy, and HD. Are you saying that you tried already and it wouldn't let the install proceed?

I think W2K won't let you install with less than 32 mb. I had a p133 with 48 MB of EDO 60ns RAM that wasn't horrible and it didn't give me problems installing with less than 64 MB.

Just to clarify, win2k pro will install w/32MB, but server won't let you.

The switches can be found w/ 'winnt.exe /?' 'winnt32.exe /?' or in the help.
None of the switches address the memory limit, although something may be buried in resource kit docs.
I wouldn't recommend server on 32MB, though, and apparently MS agrees. Pro is sluggish enough.
I say save yourself the headache and either use pro or get another stick o' memory.
