Need Printer Suggestion

My father owns a small business and has been using an old old OLD dot matrix printer for more then a decade. It's finally starting to show signs that it might not last much longer, so he has asked me to find him a suitable replacement. It will be used to print basic financial documents and customized checks through Peachtree accounting software. I'd estimate that he prints ~6-8 pages on the average day, one day a week that probably jumps to ~15-20 pages, and once a month there is day where he prints probably ~40-50. Some months might be slightly more or less. It's all black and white, also.

I'd prefer it to be something from Best Buy, but if he can get a better deal elsewhere let me know. He just wants something that doesn't cost too much, will last 5+ years, and is compatible with Peachtree AND Windows 95. Any suggestions appreciated...

If he doesn't need an impact printer and he's in a nice climate controlled (A/C, low humidity) environment then a B&W Laser will do.

Check around for a HP or even a Samsung. On Sale. Other suggestions will come too.

Brother or HP laser (my Brother 5040 is nice, $200-300 depending on the deal). Lasers cost more to start than inkjets, but pay for themselves over time with toner costing much less tha ink carts.

I'd skip Samsung since it's already harder to find toner carts for current models (vs. finding HP & Brother) and 3-5 years from now you're much more likely to need to special-order carts by mail. On the other hand, Samsung has a nice tiny new model that's cheap, so the hassle of mail ordering carts once a year might be worth it.

(ed) you might or might not need to order new checks though if you go with a laser, since lasers don't have the tractor / pinfeed mechanism.
