Need printer/print server recommendations

I need a cost effective printing solution. I have an old router that I am using as a print server. The only problem is that newer printers don't have the parallel interface (they are USB). I would like to get a printer that I can refill like the Canon IP3000, IP4000, etc. These seem to be my four options:

1. Get a new USB print server and printer
2. Find a printer that has a parallel jack. (Only one I have found is the IP4000 which is pretty expensive).
3. Get a network capable printer and eliminate the print server.
4. Get some kind of parallel to usb adapter that I can use on my current print server (Is there even such a device?)

Which solution costs the least (also in terms of refill ink costs)?
What equipment do you recommend I buy?

TIA

In terms of option 2, I have an ip4000 that I hooked up via parallel cable. And I share that printer on a small network set up with simple conencting sharing without a router. But I am almost positive that the ip4000 is the only printer in the current pixma 3000+series that has that parallel cable option.--so don't look for a ip3000 or 5000.--I do note there is a ip4000r model that has wireless sharing---but those are both rare and now hard to find.

But in my mind, a non-chipped canon is always the way to go to keep ink costs low. My ip4000 is equally adpt at using third party prefilled cartridges--or by refilling your own cartridges. In terms of recommended vendors of prefilled cartridges or refill ink, I recommend you google the nifty stuff forums.

With a chipped canon, refilling is still possible but it is slightly harder--and all third party prefilled cartridges are no longer an option
