Like the topic says, suggestions please!! My quantum Lm just crashed on me with all my data in it. ;(. I believe that it was because of intensive shaking when I brought it over during my 22 hours flight here. I'm gonna send it back to M'sia for warranty claims. Is there anyway I can claim the warranty here?? If not, I'm looking at IBM 75GXP or another Quantum LM....Suggestions needed...1 hour from now!!

IBM 75GXP without question.
Quantum drives aren't what they used to be.

Well, so much the better because they used to be crap !
I had a 3.2 Gb Quantum PIO4 fireball, after less than 3 years I had more lost than valid clusters !

Have you checked All of your cable connections, made sure your CPU, RAM, and cards are seated securely?

Does the machine work normally in DOS mode when you boot from a floppy boot disk?

Just checking.

I've been very happy with the Maxtor drives I've installed. :)

The system booted cleanly without the hdd. The HDD won't even power up. I tested with all the cables I have in my system.

Maxtor just bought troubled Quantum. I like Maxtor's 7200 RPM drives as they have been reliable and very good performers. I really like their MaxBlast utility for setting up the drive and copying data from old drive. Much better than DriveCopy and it comes free.

When I ship a computer I remove the HD and other delicate parts and carry them with me.

I just bought a Quantum fireball LM 30 gb drive. Not a problem with it at all. Quiet and fast. Just because another company bought quantum doesnt mean they are troubled, its just as strategic move. Chevy owns sabb, Ford owns volvo, etc. Just go with what you like. My personal recs are for the money you can get the quantum for 96$ with coupon and rebate from buy.com. You can also get a nice IBM drive for around 125$ from buy as well. It all depends on your situation.

If you have the money to spend, get the IBM GXP 75, or if you want to save some, buy the Maxtor Diamond Max Plus 40, which in nearly as good as the IBM
