budget?
take a look at iRiver players... I'd link it but "mp3" is blocked at work.
I have a T10 which uses AA batteries, has FM, recorder, and plays mp3s wmv wma wav.
I don't think it plays mp4s which is what iTunes uses I believe.

Also, take a look at the Sandisk players like the Sansa e series. I think it ranged in terms of memory space from 2-8gb + microSD expansion slot where you can get pretty cheap ones on woot or buy.com
