A
snake plant.
They grow kinda slow; but they're different, and they don't need constant watering. Drench it once a week or so, and if you occasionally forget about it for three or four weeks, it'll survive. Also, you can easily dig a piece out and plant it in another pot, or buy a big one from Lowes or Home Depot for less than $15.
My brother has one that someone gave my mom as a "new baby gift" when he was born (He's 28). Last winter it suddenly shot up bright reddish-purple flowers for about a week. He's not sure if he did anything different to it and I haven't had a chance to look it up... I'm not sure if you can trigger it or if it only happens every several years, but in either case it's still pretty cool.
Cactuses and Palm trees are cool, too. They're not "wild" where most of us live, and cactuses are almost impossible to kill. I'm not sure if they attract women, though
Most plants that grow slowly and live a long time should be pretty resilient.
