Need Pet Monitoring Camera

Can anyone recommend a good video camera system that I can setup at home to monitor my dog while I'm at work? Doesn't need to be fancy (2 way voice communication) but I just need to be able to access the live stream via app or whatever.

Dropcam is well marketed because I know of it... Don't think you need a subscription for basic service.

I had a couple D-Link cameras that worked alright. Similar to this one:

Framerate was pretty low, but I could see where the cats were and if they were still twitching.

What is your ISP's upload bandwidth? look at specs of the camera and calculate what you will need to make sure it will work. Most ISPs offer very low upload speeds

Not sure what my upload BW is... I will check. But what you are saying is there is no point in getting a camera that will stream faster than my isp will allow??

This is inexpensive, easy to set, and works well for pets. :thumbsup:

I had some extra money to blow so I spent $200 on the Dropcam Pro. Glad I did... it's pretty slick. Sets up via App/iPad in 2 minutes. It's USB powered (comes with a 10ft cable) so I don't have to worry about battery life. Sends motion/sound notifications. The first day using it was today and it just so happens that the fire alarm went off in the building and Dexter (our puppy) started freaking out. I was able to call my mom to go over and rescue him lol.

Just figuring out the best angle to have it setup in our condo. I took some pics and I'll post them tonight when I get home.

I think so, Time Warner allows me 1 mbps upload speed, effectively when I upload file to cloud, I get effective speeds of 150 - 160 kbps, I wonder what will be the video quality at that kind of bandwidth. Granted that compression can provide a 1mbps quality at 100kbps bandwidth, but still I am not sure how good ti will be...

On the flip side everyone who shared their experience here is happy, nobody complained so i guess you will be OK.
