My fiancee's father, a retired auto body guy, is going to be painting the Mustang when he comes back from Florida next month. My goal is a "ten foot" paint job, not something that's going to win prizes at car shows, simply because this car is going to see a lot of time on the road and I don't want to rage every time a little stone gets thrown up or someone is clumsy with their keys. I want it to look decent, but I don't care about it being era correct or absolutely flawless. Just to put it in perspective, the car will have cost somewhere in the ballpark of $7500 by the time it's done (and it's already nearing completion), including original purchase price, parts, and labor. It's also not a half-assed restoration attempt, however; we've done a lot of really great work and have simply shopped around and made sacrifices rather than cutting corners to keep the costs down.

So, with all of that said, my fiancee's father suggested looking for acrylic enamel paint. I'm looking for a nice deep blue that isn't too dark. Originally I planned on Ford's Sonic Blue (2003), but am having trouble finding it in acrylic enamel (urethane only).

Here are a few pictures of colors that I like:

Here are some colors that I don't like:

Any suggestions? Paint names / codes or year / make / model required. ;)

Thanks guys.

Pics of said car?

No pics at the moment, but I can probably snap some tomorrow. It's just a '66 Coupe, all primer right now, and partially disassembled. It's in good shape now that we've replaced the front frame rails, rear frame rails, floor pans, cowls, and portions of the fenders and doors. Absolutely no rust or rot left on the car, as it was completely disassembled and sanded, and it's been entirely undercoated.

Here is a even darker blue to what you like. You might like it.

However as my painter (brother-in-law) said "You bought a blue that costs as much as a red".

Orange peel sucks. Get rid of it as soon as it comes up.

Is it worse with acrylic enamel? The guy repainted my other car's door when one of his daughters backed into it, and over a year later it still looks great.

Great suggestions everyone - thanks.
