Need P4 Cpu fan/heatsink recommendations.

Currently on stock 42c idle, but flys to 50-54c at full load.
Temps are very sporadic.
I need recommendations for a CHEAP but better than stock cooling setup.
Price being the #1 issue.
I don't care if it makes my case sound like a jet airplane, sound isn't an issue.
Heat/Price/Being able to fit my socket 478 chip are my only issues.
Replys are *greatly* appreciated.

Welcome to the Forums akab Do you have a price range in mind? Do you happen to have any spare 80mm case fans already? Some of the popular high-performance heatsinks are designed for an 80mm fan, so if you have one, that may save you money. Also, what country do you live in, so we know whether our favorite online stores are an option for you?

Price range must be under $20 USD, I'm from the US(Florida).
I do have spare 80mm fans, however. I have two systems I need cooling for.
So one system is going to need a fan/heatsink combo.
One system however, can use a decent heatsink provided with one of my existing fans.
Any suggestions would be great.

If you're from Florida, I can understand why you'd need a decent cooler Well I hope a Pentium4 guru comes along to answer this, 'cause my feeble searches didn't come up with any fantastic coolers in that budget zone.

Bigger picture: mid-50C area isn't dangerous to the CPU... it'll kick in the automatic throttling around 67C, so you're still in the safety zone. If you happened to have some high-end AMD heatsinks lying around that you wanted to use on your P4, I do know that you can get a Thermalright adapter cage that will put your SocketA heatsink on your Pentium4. KDComputers.com carries them... link and that's just $5 plus S/H.

I'm well aware of the safe/unsafe margins.
However, I have two machines running MSI motherboards(which are being an annoyance displaying incorrect temps).
These temps are off the wall and will ride up to 55c for no aparent reason.....
I meerly need a better cooling suggestion than stock.
I understand my budget is small I don't require the best P4 cooling possible just something greater than stock temps on a stock heatsink/fan.

My understanding was that the stock P4 cooler is actually a pretty hard unit to beat without moving up to something in the $30+ area, like an SLK-800U with an adjustable-RPM 80mm fan or something.

go with the sp 94...its prob the best out right now for p4
