I am a total novice at this. I have read a lot of information on overclocking, including the sticky in the forum. While I know each chip/ram etc has different limits, can someone who is familiar with my combo give me a few pointers as to what to start with for a good overclock.

I need an overclocking for dummies answer !

I appreciate it!

Good luck getting someone to help you...It seems of late nobody in here wants to help us who can't grasp the "after socket A" overclocking concept. All you are going to get is...look at the sticky. I'm in the same boat as you. What I did was google my chip and motherboard make and with the words overclocking and I just happen to find someone post their results of my exact setup...I would try that because like I said...it seems nobody wants to help us knuckleheads!!!

I got a 3000+ venice, and i got someone to help me. It's now runinng at 2430mgh, not a major OC, but I think I got a bad chip, and thats all my chip will do. If you can get on irc, im willing to talk you through the basics, where to start etc ...

Doesn't the ASUS mobo come with ASUS's own overclocking software? I believe it's called NOS and you can overclock right in Windows. That's a pretty good place to get your feet wet in overclocking.

You'll get better results manually overclocking in the BIOS, but why not start the easy way?

the easy way means simply clicking on a max performance boost of 10% :p

Anywayz, I offered him to talk to me on irc, and I'll help him out, I dun mind.

Yeah.. unless someone has the exact chip/mobo combo, ill try getting help from Mark this weekend.

The ASUS overclocking utilities are garbage, i definately have to go the bios route, because if i cant get at least 2.4ghz out of the chip I am gonna buy another.

Btw.. i have artic silver 5 on my chip which has kept it pretty cool, but does it need to ever be reapplied? Im sure its been there for a few yrs now and i cant remember my cpu temps when i first applied to see if the effects have worn off.
