Hey!
I have read these forums for quite some time now but only registered just today! Some great discussions have happened on this board and many members help others, which is why I have decided to register... I am currently in the market for a new computer, and I am thinking about building my own machine (with the ability to overclock of course). Below is my rig. I am uncertain about a few things, so this is where I need some advice. My budget is roughly $2000 and I think I have pretty much hit the mark. Here goes nothing:
Case: Antec SX1030B with 8x8 cm fan added for intake (on front) OR
Hydraulic SF860S with one 8x8 cm fan in the front, one 6x6 cm fan in the rear. This case is beautiful and I love that drive bay cover, but would it provide enough cooling for the computer OCed? Info on it can be found here.
Power Supply: Both cases would have a 300 watt AMD approved PS in them.
Motherboard: Abit KT7A-RAID, also looked at the MSI K7T Turbo-R however would like to have the potential to overclock. Is the stability difference between the two that noticeable?
CPU: 1.2 GHz Athlon 266 (OEM)... thought about going with the 1.333 when it ships sometime in the next few weeks however I have found no evidence that this would be the Palomino core. Anyone know otherwise?
HSF: GlobalWIN FOP38 + Artic Silver II... I have heard this clip is difficult to install. I would be a newbie at this and it worries me a bit. Any HS out there that utilize the 4 screw holes around the socket that do a decent cooling job?
RAM: Mushkin Rev 2 256 megabyte DIMM
HD: IBM Desktar GXP 45 GB
Sound: SBLive X-Gamer (from old computer)
Video: Hercules 3d Prophet II Ultra (I am shying away from the Pro since I have heard many people having problems with GF2 GTS and Pros on the Abit KT7/KT7A boards)
Network Card: Linksys 10/100 PCI
CD: Plextor Plexwriter 16x10x40 IDE
Monitor: Sony A400/L Anyone with good feedback on this?
That's about it, I won't bore everyone with the keyboard and mouse.
Thanks in advance for any replies!
