Hello :)

Being a novice at this overclocking stuff, as well as having NO success whatsoever when attempting to overclock my last board (nf7-s + xp2600), I decided yesterday to pick up a 939 Venice and the 'famed' Asrock Dual Sata2 board.

Right, settings now are as follows, using latest 1.90 BIOS from Asrock and stock cooling:

cpu at 260 x 10 = 2600mhz
memory is running at 173mhz (346DDR) (this is one of the things I'm not sure about whether it's okay, not exactly sure here, think this could be better. it's just some bog standard Elixir DDR400 RAM, Everest says that it has Nanya chips. dunno if these are any good)
vcore is at 1.47 according to Everest
cpu idle temp is 33C according to Everest
cpu load temp while running Prime 95 (it's running as I type this and has passed 2 runs) is 45 according to Everest
motherboard idle temp is 23C according to Everest
motherboard load temp is 27C according to Everest
HTT multiplier is at x 4, giving a HTT frequency of 1040 (this is the other bit I wasn't sure about. i've read that being *slightly* over isn't a problem, i've also read that it can go up to 1100 without a problem on some boards. i have no objection to dropping it to x 3 if there's no drop in performance, which i'll have to do anyway if i want to take this any further)

Well, that's about it. I plan to leave Prime95 running all day tomorrow to check stability. before I go to bed tonight, I am going to see what gaming is like at this speed. :)

But does this look promising? The CPU temp just doesn't rise above 45C, which seems pretty good to me.

Would appreciate the knowledgable feedback of the guys on here.

Cheers in advance. :)

How about giving super pie or memtest86 a try that will help you with your memory.
your divider is not at 1:1. if it was you would be running at 260x2=520MHz and do you know what your mem timings are? should look like this 2-2-2-6( numbers might be higher) If you dont know try using cpu-z this will give you alot of info about your chip, mobo, ram, timings, cpu core and chipset. A little more info about you pc(ok alot) and there are alot of people to help. sorry i was not much

Hey, thanks for the response. :)

Yes, I am running a memory divider. Maybe that's because I always thought that this RAM was holding the XP back with overclocking, I always got RAM-type blue screen errors. But maybe you're right. And this is why I posted here, to find this stuff out. Like I say, I've never really had any success at it before. The memory timings are 3-3-3-8, it's what this stuff is rated for apparently. Should I go for a 1:1 divider and loosen those timings? The vdimm is already on 'high', this board is really superb apart from one or two BIOS features which I hope they'll include in the future. 'High' isn't really what I was after, but oh well. The board more than makes up for it.

This is the full system:

939 Venice 3200
Asrock Dual AGP/PCI-E 939 board
1GB standard cheapass RAM
Thermaltake Purepower 560W PSU (i know that this isn't the best, only 22a on 12v rail)
2 x optical drives
1 x HD (I had 4 in the old system, bought a USB 2.0 enclosure this time to enable as much power as possible. wondering how much i'll save by losing 3 drives and a PCI IDE controller card, maybe somebody has an answer to this?)
1 x Audigy 2 ZS
Sapphire X800GTO 256mb AGP grafix (unlocked to 16 pipes, running @ 430/540 clocks)
El cheapo network card
Crap case

Appreciate your thoughts. In any case, how much better is the current scenario than the stock settings?

Cheers.

looks like you're on the right track, can't help much as I've never played with one of these boards but, looks like you're doin fine. a 1:1 divider on the memory is all good and well for stock speeds but, I have yet to ever be able to run ram as far up the FSB scale as my processor.

Cheers. :)

Gonna give that a read now. But nevertheless, what I have going on is a fair bit better than stock, right?

Sorry for any n00bishness committed...
