I have $225 in flooz that I want to use on a monitor, so I'm stuck with outpost.com. and this seems to be the best deal in my price range. Of course, I'd prefer a 19" 1600 x 1200... but don't want to shell out the extra $. Anyone have experience with this? Should I wait and keep shopping around? Right now, I'm at 800 x 600 on a .28, 14" (don't laugh!!), so this is a few steps up. I don't think I'll need anything extra to run this (like a video card, right??).
Thanks

66hz is pretty bad. For some people, 85hz is the minimum refresh rate or else they get a headache or it hurts their eyes. I used a 15" monitor at 1204x768@60hz for years so it doesn't bother me that much though it is nice to use this 19" at 85hz!

That monitor is decent. It is 17" version ofthe Samsung 955DF. It is a shadow mask monitor, meaning it is best for crisp text. If that is what you are looking for, the Samsung 700IFT might be a better choice. Still is a shadow mask but has a better refresh rate. If you want a trintron tube, check out the Samsung 700NF. It has a maximum refresh rate of 1600x1200 I believe. It will be the most expensive of the three but worth it in my opinion.

There is a $30 rebate on all three of those monitors.

Thanks eagle__2,
I primarily view text and numbers, on my browser and spreadsheets. No gaming but a little graphics. I think 1600 x 1200 might be too tiny for a 17". Big and sharp lettering is what I want. I might even just run it in 800 x 600, bc I like everything being big. I just need extra sharpness.

I was a little mistaken on the refresh rates:
the 753DF has
a max resolution of 1280x1024 @ 66Hz
a optimal resolution of 1024x768 @ 85 HZ

the 700IFT has
a max resolution of 1920x1440@ 64Hz
a optimal re of 1280x1024 @ 85 HZ

- Unfortunately, I think the 753DF is only one currently on rebate (a bunch of them ended on 8/31). So the 700IFT is about $60 more, which is $300. Then I ask, should I just spend the extra $50 from there and get the 19"??? I leaning towards the 753DF if it's not sux.

1024 x 768 is a good resolution on a 17" monitor. 85 Hz is a good refresh rate. I think Samsung also makes the 755DF -- which might have higher refresh rates. Use your Flooz money and get the 753DF. If you run into more money in a year, then sell it and upgrade. I had some issues with the 955DF, but the 753DF that I saw was a very good monitor.

Do you plan to run the monitor at 1280x1024? If you do, I would go for the 700IFT. I think most people would find 1280x1024 too small for a 17", as 1280x1024 seems to be the optimum for a 19".

I forgot to check the rebate. The last two months they had a rebate for most of their models including the IFT, DF, and NF series. They will probably have a rebate next month but I doubt it is worth waiting and then there is the possibility that it still doesn't include the IFT series.

I forgot about the 755DF. The refresh rates for that is 1600x1200@68hz, 1280x1024@80hzm 1024x768@85hz too.

If you really are on a budget, get the 753DF if you ARE NOT going to run at 1280x1024. If you want a little bit better, go for the 955DF. If ya want to get the best one they have, get the 900IFT.

The 755DF is probably about $30 more than the 753DF and the 900IFT is probably $30 more than the 755DF or $60 more than the 753DF like you stated.

These are my choices:

Samsung SyncMaster 753DF 17" .20mm 1280x1024 $239.95 AFTER REBATE

Samsung SyncMaster 700 IFT 17" .20mm 1600x1200 Monitor $299.95

Samsung SyncMaster 755 DF 17" .20mm 1600x1200 Color Monitor $299.95

Samsung SyncMaster 955DF 19" .20mm 1600x1200 Price After Rebate=$349.95

I guess I'll go with teh 753DF and run it at 1024 x 768. I know I'll always hate it bc I really want the 955DF. But it is free, bc the flooz is from freebies. :(

Wow! Go get it from Onvia and use your flooz for something else there.
If you can manage the $270, get the 755DF.

Maverick: The 755DF doesn't use a Trintron tube. None of the DF or IFT models do. Those are DynaFlat tubes, which are shadow mask, and manufactured by Samsung. You might be thinking of the 700NF or 900NF which uses the Mitsubishi DiamondTron tube.

I hate flooz stores! There's no store that has anything I want. All I want is a monitor and a Plextor 10/12/32 (at outpost for $300!! ) Yeah, I know the onvia and buy.com prices on it... :(

Unfortunately, for this situation-- I can spend $20 out of pocket and $225 in flooz, and get a decent monitor (the 753DF or even go to $300 on another model) -- or --spend $270-300 out of pocket at onvia and get a bunch of junk from other flooz stores.

If I were paying all cash, I wouldn't bother with outpost, but .. I really want a new monitor, and the bulk of the $$ came from contests and promos, so if I blow it, it's not the end of the world??

Oy== the decisions... why couldn't I have tracked down one of those $300 TFT LCD's????

Thanks all!

flooz is an online currency that you can only use at the ~60 stores that accept it- the selection of stores is limited-- eg in electronics, you can shop at igo.com and outpost.com. The website lists them all. http://www.flooz.com

I got my flooz from promotions/contests run by why.com, juno.com, american greetings, careerpath, & others. Companies give it away like they do amazon GCs.. I've let it build up and have been pretty lucky bc I'd never even heard of flooz 6 months ago!! :) I'd rather get cash, but even if I'm paying a little more at outpost, it's still free anyway bc I got all the flooz in promos. :)

I might talk myself into waiting and seeing if there are any holiday promos either to get more flooz or if outpost runs some sort of sale, though I don't think they ever have (and who knows how long any of these stores will last!). Right now, they are looking into the rebate on the 755DF because it still lists it on the website, and if I can get it, I'll probably go for that one.
