need opinions on mobo

Don't ask me why but I like the ASUS one better among the two.

But either way, spending that much for a 785G board doesn't seem right. You should be able to find a 890GX board for that price. If you plan to use IGP, go with mATX. Decent mATX 785G/880G boards go for $70~80. If you need a full ATX size board, go with 890GX/890FX.

I am using that Gigabyte board and it works great.

what is the intended purpose of this board?

I'd go with the 880G mobo simply because it improves on the excellent 785G chipset and has the new tech like USB 3.0 and SATA 6G.

I would carefully reconsider the use of AMD chipsets if you are planning to use AHCI, e.g. because you want to use an SSD now/in the future.
AMD's AHCI drivers cost you 20-45% in drive performance and the generic MSFT AHCI drivers can cause stuttering issues.
