Hey all

It's time to upgrade my NEC Multisync CRT monitor with something alittle more up to date. The lowest size I wanna go with is 22inch 1680x1050 res widescreen. The only thing is I'm not sure which would be the best purchase. I've looked at Acer, Asus, Spectre and Hannes-G and just don't know which is the better brand.

This is the link to the one I've looked at specifically, I'd also like it to have a DVI connection. Any suggestions? my price limit would be about $200.

Acer x223W

any suggestions/ opinions? I'm a big gamer so I'd like something with good color depth/saturation.

for $200 you don't get to pick LCD with good colors and saturation... especially not in 22" range that are all TNs. However, lately TNs have decent color reproduction (compared to itself), but colors still aren't as rich as PVA or IPS panels.

You're buying yourself a hunk of trash for $200. 22" suck. I'm not even kidding and don't say that I'm too harsh because really my eyes hurt when I look at TN panels.

I would spend a little more money and get a 2ms response time if you are a big gamer. I love my Samsung. I paid $289 a while back for this one and now its $230 AMIR

Well thanks for the input. Let me just say I know almost nothing about lcd displays. I've been a CRT guy for 15 years and usually run them into the ground before upgrading. I was wondering about the response time. I imagine it would be bad to click the mouse and notice a significant time delay between clicking and a weapon firing. I mean I was just looking for ones around $200, but I could go as high as $250-300. I'd like to get the best bang for the buck, I know my friend got a spectre which is like a no name brand. He loves his and it was pretty much the cheapest in the 22inch market at the time.

I'm wondering about the contrast ratio, I know higher is better but what would be optimum?

contrast ratio is mostly meaningless today as manufacturers provide dynamic contrast ratio that has no meaning. please look at sticky "The LCD Thread" for the recommendations. There are differences between 22" models, for example LG's 227WT has glossy screen (that improves contrast) is one of recommended ones for gaming.
