It is going to be extremely hard to find a 42"+ LCD TV for $1000 or less. $1500 is about where you can get a decent set. Any less then that and you are into the no-name brands where quality control on the panel is next to non-existent because they are getting the 3rd tier LCD panels (i.e. 1st tier go to the actually manufacturer, 2nd tier go to the outsourced name-brands, 3rd tier go to anyone else). These will typically suffer from stuck or dead pixels and in most cases you will not be able to exchange for a different TV because it is not considered "defective".
Again, for that size, you will be extremely hard pressed for anything less then $1500 for a good quality TV. Remember, you want this thing to last you several years here, not just one or two... Invest a little in it. Your computer probably cost you more then that and you will probably replace the computer sooner as well. Go look at Sharp, or Samsung, or Sony if you want a LCD HDTV, the others are a lot more of a crap shoot as to if you get a good one or not. It isn't worth it. Samsung has a new model with LED backlights coming out any time now. This will allow much better color reproduction, picture contrast, and brightness uniformity. Sharp's D92U series TVs have a 120Hz refresh to allow frame/timing perfect viewing of standard TV (30fps), movies (24fps), and HDTV (60fps) for the first time (all other sets use inverse telesine or other methods of trying to fit a film movie that only has 24fps of video onto a 60Hz refresh rate, but this causes stuttering and audio/visual timing issues).
