Need opinions: MX500

I have the mx700 which is the same mouse and it has no problems with games. The batteries they ship with it are rechargeable. When I am through using it I just put the whole mouse in a recharger. The only problem is with the mouse software. Before I play a game I have to disable the mouse center to use the scroll wheel. Apparently this is a known issue with Logitech and I found the fix on their website. This is the most comfortable mouse I ever used.

Anybody know how it compares to the Razor Boomslang 2k? I've been using the Boomslang the past 2 years since it came out...it totally whips all the other mouses out there once I got used to the shape. Makes all other mouses seem slow as molasses when just on the Windows desktop. Still I'd like to get rid of the ball concept, I've been waiting for the day opticals can catch up to the Boomslang's speed and precision, and maybe the MX500 is it, but from specs it's still not quite there?

Actually I think it has,with 8000 scans a second (which means no skipping even with super fast movements) and 800dpi it`s awesome for gaming,btw team it up with a decent mouse pad like Ratpad or Everglide Giganta etc and you will have a potent gaming mouse,plus Logitech reliability.Having used an optical for over a year now,no way could I go back to ball type mouse ,even if it`s the best out there.

Hrm, but that's it. The Boomslang has 2000dpi vs the Logitech's 800dpi. I would think the Boomslang might still be the better one for making those headshots. I'm still tempted to try the MX500 though, just to see how optical technology has progressed. Maybe that dpi difference won't even make a difference in actual use...
Well, I'm afraid it is all about the dpi...
Came home today with a MX700. Charged it all the way up, popped it into the USB port in place of my Boomslang, and loaded up UT CTF-Face to see how it does for sniping. Utterly morbid compared to the Boomslang. It just skipped all over the place, much like the Intellimouse Explorer I had before buying the Boomslang. All I did was just load up the max number of bots possible, set it on the easiest difficulty, and then let the other team's bots all come out. With the MX700 it was just impossible to clear the bots away in one sweep because it was impossible to get a bead on the head in one try. Swapped back in the Boomslang, and it was like a turkey shoot, just hopping from head to head and taking out a whole row of bots in one sweep. Make no mistake about it, the extra dpi's DO matter. It was just much easier to track with the Boomslang because it didn't have nearly as much pixel hopping as the MX700.
And speaking of ergonomics, I found it quite difficult to go into each weapon's 2nd shooting mode using the button under the wheel without easily knocking the wheel up one or down on the MX700. That got annoying real quick. Not a problem on the Boomslang, pressing the wheel button down does not spill over into the scrolling.
The MX700 goes right back to CompUSA tomorrow...and the refund goes to buying a spare Boomslang 2k or two!

Vertigo-1 I`m surpised you didn`t go with the corded version(MX500)since I`ve never liked cordless mice for gaming no matter how good the specs are on the MX700,I should be getting my MX500 soon to replace my old Logitech Optical Mouseman Wheel(which has served me well even with old 1500hz scaning rate etc). I`m doing well with my optical mouse in online games like UT,TFC,CS etc(I just love taking snipers out in TFC as HWguy) but I suppose my Everglide Giganta mouse pad helps as well.Btw I use it in USB mode and have all acceleration on max etc in the mouseware software.
Also with the MX500 you don`t have to worry about the batterys running low in gaming or any radio frequency problems.
