Need opinions from owners of Lian-Li PC-6x cases

I'm really considering a Lian-Li PC-61(black) case since being a college student, I have to lug my computer up a few flights of stairs every couple of months when moving.

I was going to get an Antec 1030B case, but my friend got one and it is an absolute tank! Very nice case and all, but I have enough stuff to move around without worrying about a 40+lb computer case.

So, I would just like some opinions from people that actually OWN a Lian-Li PC-6x series of case.

-Are you happy with the case?
-Is it worth the money?
-Is the finish on the case durable?
-Is it easy to enlarge the tiny holes on the front bezel(I need airflow baby!)?
-Possible to put 92mm fans where the 80mm fans are?

etc. etc.

As you can tell, I'm interesting in modding my case somewhat, but still keeping it looking classy and sleek, not to mention QUIET!

Thanks for any responses!

Yes.

Yes.

<< -Is the finish on the case durable? >>

Yes, though susceptible to finger prints (try black if you're worried).

<< -Is it easy to enlarge the tiny holes on the front bezel(I need airflow baby!)? >>

Of course it is. Just cut it!

<< -Possible to put 92mm fans where the 80mm fans are? >>

Yes, actually. Not in the back, though (there is room for another 80mm exhaust in the rear).

Awesome!!! Thanks for the quick response.

Looks like that's my next case. Now if my friend will just cough up that $170 he owes me...

You could always get a Skyhawk...better temps with the Skyhawk than with Coolermaster.

The Skyhawk doesn't really appeal to me. Plus I have a heavily modded, Gloss Black painted Enlight 7237 case right now. I want something sleek and classy while still providing pretty good performance.

I'm also planning on keeping this case for quite a while, so the price tag isn't that hard to swallow.

You know I bought my pc-60 for $165 and thought that it was a good deal. However, for 20 bux more I could've got a pc65 with a clear window. Now Im purchasing it seperately for another 40 bux. bummer.

Although Lians look very fraigile from their thin casing, they are actually quite strong since it's FORGED aluminum. Sort of like Alpha heatsinks.

BTW. dont forget to cahnge the rear ADDA fan with a panaflo, the ones in the front can stay if you set it to low. those addas are a screamer~

ShinSa,

From our posts lately I think you and I have the exact same setup. :)

Def,

I have the PC-65 USB case with Panaflos in the PSU, rear exhaust fan, and on the Alpha 8045 heatsink. I left the Addas on down in front on low and have a super slot fan under the AGP slot in back. The rear case fan, slot fan, and a cold cathode are hooked up to a baybus (I just feel like too much of a geek with the light on inside the computer though so it stays off a good bit, but then I am getting a 2nd one soon haha).

I'm happier with the Lian Li case than any other case I've ever owned (I mainly have had InWin mid/full towers and the Enlight 7237). It's totally worth the money imho if you ever have to move your computer around. The case comes with tons of neat little features like removeable motherboard tray and that wonderful detachable case connection LED/switches wire group thing. The aluminum is light but at ShinSa said it is pretty durable stuff. I have the standard brushed aluminum finish and it's been pretty scracth resistant so far though I'm fairly careful with the case/computer.

If drilling the holes in the faceplate for my baybus was any indication, enlarging the front face intake holes shouldn't cause you too much trouble. Aluminum is definitely softer than steel.

I have a PC-65 (silver, with the window panel), though i have only had it a few days. $185 with a generic 300w PS which they gave me $40 credit for twards a 450w enermax. (Bought it from a local computer chain store).

Antec 1040 was my other considered case, didn't like much else that was under $250.

-Are you happy with the case? Extremely. The quality of the metal work is quite good and the case is surprisingly rigid. Lots of small details i like, such as the side panel along the power supply that runs all the way front to back and hides the excess wiring from the supply... stuff like that.

-Is it worth the money? Yea, i guess so. It's really quite nice to look at and has great features, and is a lot cheaper than some of the other alternatives like a CoolerMaster, though a Cooler Master is that much finer detailed (you ARE getting what you pay for with either... cooler master costs a bit more, but is that much more refined IMO).

-Is the finish on the case durable? I haven't had mine long, so i can't comment. Be carefull assembling your system, and be sure before you tighten screws down that they are where you want them, as they leave a mark in the aluminum that will be there if you remove the screw or re-position a component.

-Is it easy to enlarge the tiny holes on the front bezel(I need airflow baby!)? Ida no. The finish is hard anodized on the silver cases, and it will be gone from the edges if you enlarge holes... not sure what it would look like... and of course if you get a black case, the color anodizing would be gone, but that might look pretty cool on the edges of the vent holes.

-Possible to put 92mm fans where the 80mm fans are? There's room to do it. There's also room to add another fan in the back panel below the factory one.

I'm another happy Lian Li PC-65 owner. There isn't a simpler or more hassle-free case out there. Everything is tool-less and wide open for easy access. I bought it because I wanted a case that I wasn't going to get tired of 6 months from when I bought it. Believe me, I'm going to keep this baby for a long time, too. It's a very sharp looking case.

As ShinSa said, take a look at the PC-65. The side window is really sharp and it looks awesome with a cold cathode light in there and a window etching (biohazard on mine). I figured I spent a small fortune on what's inside, so I'm gonna show it off. :)

I have a PC60USB - very happy with it in every respect. I wont consider buying a cheap'n'nasty case ever again. If you do decide to get one, seriously consider painting your drive facia.s

Pics of my machine.

As an aside I saw a bunch of Lian Li cases at a place called ncix.com at incredible prices. (Make sure to select the little American flag for US prices. Or the Canadian flag for their monopoly money.)

Anyone know anything about NCIX? I only found them when using the price watch/grabber/whatever thing over at Tom's Hardware Guide.

$120 for a PC-60 Lian Li is hard to pass up. But it is SO cheap that I can't get myself to trust it.

Whoa! that's even below wholesale price. Hmm, something smells fishy. I've heard places where they sell fake lian li's. But for $130 bux who cares!

That is the cheapest I've seen for this case. Whats the reseller rating on these guys??

EDIT: The shipping bumps the PC60-USB to $160 which sounds close to normal price but still cheap nevertheless. Some places that sell Lians with free shipping also sell it for $160, so not as hot as it sounded in first place. That's what sucks about ordering cases online.

I ordered a PC60 USB from them a while back (yeah got 2 Lian-Lis now :)). The case is perfectly legit as far as I can tell. It came in the same kind of box as my PC65 with the exact same accessories, fans, etc. I ordered the PC60 with a 350W Enermax PSU but they called me and were out of the PSU and offered me a substitute of some generic 350 or 400W PSU for less money which I accepted...

Shipping takes a while since they're located in Canada but the prices are for real, for real cases.

That was actually a pretty interesting bundle. It looked to be $160 for the PC60 with the enermax whisper 350W supply. That looked like a pretty good price, too. Wonder how much the enermax adds to shipping.

It shouldn't add much to the shipping costs imho. They open up the case and install the PSU for you before shipping so it doesn't take up any extra room, just adds a bit of weight to the box. :) I wish I had held out for the Enermax PSU but I couldn't wait any longer for it.

I took it as he was saying they probably add on extra shipping to help pay for the more expensive power supply.

This is interesting. If I use Tom's Price Grabber thing over at Tom's Hardware Guide it comes up with a shipping cost of $17.90. Either it costs way less to get it to me (near Minneapolis) or there is a difference in price when you get it listed from Tom's.

[Edit] That is for just the Lian Li.
[Edit2] Misread it. That is an estimated price.
