Hello everyone. I recently bought an engagement ring and was planning on asking her when we are in Scotland this May(we are going on May1st). I have been thinking about how i'm going to get the ring through all the airport check point with out her knowing and am not sure how easy it will be. Our 4 year anniversary is tomorrow and I though maybe for saftey of the ring I would ask her tomorrow instead. I am torn between asking her in Scotland and risking her finding it early or losing it or what ever but being alot more memoriable and romantic vs having more peace of mind about the ring but not being as special. Whats every ones opinion? Thanks!!!

Just put it in your carry-on. I'm sure people go through security all the time with rings in their bags.

I'm sure Gaylord Focker would have a thing or two to say about that.

put it in your carry on. If it goes thru the X-Ray machine, they will see what it is and not be bothered. But in the off chance they pull you over, she cannot come with you for questioning anyway!
:)
Congrats and good luck!

I have a larger camera bag that has my Canon G3, ZR70 and Rebel Ti that I was thinking about putting it in and carrying on. I guess I am some what paranoid. The ring cost a mint, 8g, but it is insured so I guess I should stop worrying.

You could always ship it via UPS to your hotel in Scotland Lothar1974 :)

You could secret it away in your most holy of holies, but I think that only works for watches. Plus it would be hard to explain if you set off the metal detector and had to be searched.

I agree, if you are being paranoid (you really are), just use Fedex or UPS and insure it to $8000 ;)

Pop it in your luggage in a pant leg or something if you carrying on, or if all your clothes are going 'downstairs', then put it in your carry-on bag.

Rings (at least not gold ones) don't set off metal detectors, do they? I would carry it, stick it on your pinky finger or whatnot and just turn it wrong side around so the stone isn't visible. You shouldn't have trouble keeping it out of her view and you can put it away after you're on the plane.
