Need opinion on class project

Hi everyone! I need your feedback on something! One of the things we're doing for our media class at my local CC is we're being required to produce a full 4+ minute long music video as our final project. We get graded on quality, content, cut and paste editing, music, etc. So we're basically free to use anything we want to in the video from actual motion video shot by ourselves to cut and paste video right out of movies, tv shows, advertisements, still photos, special effects, etc. We then match it to our favorite song or piece of music, and bingo. That's our final project. This is due april 28th so I'm looking for feedback on the version I have already to see how much work I still have to do. I want it to look as professional as possible. (going for the big A++ in this class! 😀)

Here is a link to the version 1.0a of my "music video" for my media class. Size: aprox 12megs.

You'll have to forgive me for the somewhat grainy quality of this video. I had to shock it down as much as possible so it was easier to download. The original file is 120+ megs! :Q

Cool video. Me likey fighter jets 😀

Anyways, the only recommendations I have are as follows :

-You are probably already set on this song, but it's usually easier (maybe not for you since you might be artistically gifted) to choose a song that has a definitive beat and buildup, etc so you can queue the video to it. This song just seems mellow throughout so you can't really tell what vid caps go where

-It seems kinda weird going from Top Gun clips to something in outer space. Maybe this stark transition is what you're going for, I'm not sure.

That's the only thing I really noticed. It seems to be blended together fairly well and the Top Gun clips are top notch 🙂

Keep up the good work!

Wow, thanks for the input. If I were to change songs, which one would you say would be a better one with the definitive beat and buildup you were talking about?

Ok, I can't get it to work. When I play it in WMP there is a picture of an f-14 or something and it stays frozen on that same frame for like 2 minutes with no sound. Then I opened it up in Quicktime and heard the music, but no picture. Wtf?

d/l it now. Shall be finished in about 3 or 4 hrs or so! On dial up here 🙁

Will give opinions for you when I have d/l it and watched it 😀

I only suggested that because it'd be easier for me to pick out changes in the video. Like if a song got heavier, you could go to a faster scene or perhaps like a dogfight in a Top Gun clip.

Popular examples of songs like this?

Evanescence - Bring me to Life
Metallica - Fade to Black very slow to few fast parts
NIN - Gave Up <-- excellent example

I'm not saying to change the song. If you like it, that's what's important. I was just trying to see how you intended for the video to flow around the music. I'm by no means a director so you probably have a better idea in what you're doing than I do 😉

There's absolutely no relationship between the music and the video. It looks like you just went and raided the sci-fi section of the video store, grabbed your copy of top gun, and started hacking at it. Whichever peices fell into the same pile made it into the video.

Never mind that there was nothing in the song related to space or flying.

The video is encoded with Divx 5.03 and windows APM audio. It's all that Premier 6.5 will let me do. 🙁

I'm gonna get another video editing program soon, but not until after my class. Premier sucks. It's too restrictive and too hard to work with. :|

Just use the divx player and it should play just fine.

god dam it 🙁 doesn't work in WMP like you said, but in divx player the picture of the plane just flashes, do i need a really really new verison of divx player or something?

Version 5.03 should work for you. You'll also need the Divx player that comes with it if you're having issues still. Otherwise I don't know what to tell ya other than to take it to a friends computer and play it.
