Need Opinion on Best Mini-Stereo/Shelf System...

I recently picked up the JVC HX-Z1 ( http://www.jvc.com/product.jsp?modelId=MODL026878 ) for more of a test run than anything else... I like it a lot but it doesn't have quite enough bass to make me happy. I'm conflicted on whether or not to bring it back. I was thinking about picking up the Z3 instead ( http://www.jvc.com/product.jsp?modelId=MODL026892 ) cause it has bigger subs, more power, and supports MP3 CD's.

I should mention that I am getting a compact system like this cause its mainly a dorm system. I just want opinions as to whether you guys think JVC is the best choice in this case, and if the Z3 would be worth the extra 100$

Thanks in Advance

why not invest in some decent PC speakers?

Logitech z560's are $99 AR, and they probably sound a whole lot better.

I don't think any z560 owner can say that :)

You apparently already have a puter..... Why not get a nice set of speakers for that such as the Z560's or other similar ones. You'd save money and barely use any additional room.

90% of those shelf systems look ridiculous and seem to be marketed towards girls and morons.... Pretty flashing lights, 428042 "SUPER ULTRA BASS PORTS," 482002856026 watts, etc.... Skip the plastic crap and buy a nice set of speakers and a nice sound card if you don't have one and you'll be big pimpin'.

sweet jesus, i just noticed that thing costs $450!!!

please consider this: Onkyo HT S650 Home Theater System

it regularly goes on sale for $434 shipped. it'll blow the pants off any bookshelf system you want, and you have a kick ass dorm room movie setup. you can invite chicks to come watch movies :)

thanks for the replies... but I'm not so sure about getting speakers for my comp cause its a lappy and i'd have to buy an external sound card... I don't see how computer speakers can even compare cause the JVC's i mentioned are 350watts and 460watts w/ multiple amps...

More opinions welcome..

I checked out that setup and its not on sale now @ 500$ but it looks decent...

One of the key selling points for me on the JVC is the MP3 support though..
