Anyone here own a Kodak F600 or C650?
Also, what is so good about the APS thing?

Thanks for all your help.

I just need a new camera. Something basic and the F600 is like 30 after rebate and the C650 is 50 after rebate. I rather skimp on the camera and get a good camcorder.

I've got a Canon Elph which uses APS and I hate the picture quality.

I used to be into photography but got tired of lugging around cameras and lenses so I just bought a point and shoot Elph without really thinking.

Man was I disappointed in the quality of APS film. It is very grainy and not very colorful. I'd stay away from APS if I were you. The only reason to get APS is if you really don't want to hassle with loading a camera. Plus, developing APS film is freaking expensive. Here in NYC, it's about $12-14 for 25 shots. Reprints are even more crazy. It's like $1 per reprint!

APS uses a small negative, 25mm I think. Hence the picture quality suffers in comparison to a 35mm camara. Why people use it is a mystery to me. I tried it, and I see no benifit.

If you want a great cheap camera, Id check out the Nikon FM10. Its completley manual, and looks freaking awesome with color and black and white film. I was the photography editor for my school mag, and I didnt have that much cash. I picked up that one and man, it was worth every single penny I paid for it. I still use it today. Its awesome because its totally upgradable, I have a collection of lenses and other accesorries that just snap into place.

If you are looking for a digital, or a point and shoot deal, Id probably check out the Canon's, Ive heard some nice things about those.

PM me if you want to know more about it.

The only good thing about APS is the ease of use---just drop the cartridge in, and that's it. But as others stated, the negative is smaller, so enlargements aren't going to turn out very well. Another downside, is the lack of any custom processing availability.

I can't state enough how bad APS prints are. In the long run you really are better off getting a cheap 35mm camera rather than a cheap APS camera.

When I got a set of prints developed from my Elph I asked for doubles but they gave me single prints. It cost me $15 for 25 prints. When they did the reprints they wanted $25! The reason being they had to go and pick each picture individually from the roll. I said it was BS because I wanted all the prints and we got into this big argument over the cost of developing and printing vs just reprinting.

Right after that I bought a digital Elph and haven't touched my APS Elph since.

BTW: The digital Elph's pictures are much better than the APS Elph.
