I recently bought a XFX 6800XT (okay, stop laughing...) for a new build. It performs a lot better than the x800se in my mom's (and my former) computer, so I'm not complaining about that. But the temeprature and noise is unbarable.
The x800se used to idle int he high 30's, and max out around the low to mid 50's.
this 6800xt idles in the mid 60's and max's in the low 80's
IS THIS NORMAL? The only thing I can think of is that the 6800xt had a painted aluminum heatsink, where the x800se has a copper heatsink. But would it make that much of a difference?
Also, the 6800xt has thermal pads ont he processor and memory, where as I took of the heatsink on the x800se and redid the thermal paste myself.
For my main question.... with the x800se I used atitool to overclock, and se the fan speeds. Very convienent. Is there any program for nvidia cards? I'm more concerned about the fan control- as ntune can even do OCing.... I'm fairly sure the fan is constantly at 100%, and ntune's adjustments eem to do nothing for the fan controls....
please help
