The nb fan just died on evga mobo (see sig). Don't think I can RMA it (not registered), and evga doesn't sell those fans standalone, so I want to pick up a replacement fan from newegg or elsewhere.

Problem is the fan has to be very thin since the video card (see sig) literally sits right on top of it. Here's a pic showing the tight fit: http://www.nvnews.net/reviews/...mainboard/page_7.shtml

Can anyone recommend a good replacement fan that will fit?

thanks.

Thanks. Does it come with the paste or sticker I have to use between the chip and fan/heatsink?

I have no idea...why not read on the website and see if it says anything?

You may have to just re-use the plastic clips your current one uses.

Newegg didn't have any info but ViZo's website claims it comes with the thermal tape and inserts. I wish I could just go to a store somewhere in NY/NJ and buy it tonight, instead of buying it online and waiting for it. thanks.

Final question - how much risk do I run using my computer without this fan until the new one gets here? I think it's been dead for a while since I only noticed when I got the warning after a restart boot up last night - so I'm thinking my computer was able to handle it. Any thoughts?

Have you tried local computer stores? I used to carry those in stock at the store I managed all the time.

You can probably run fine with just the heatsink, but after using it a while, check on the temps.

Also, you may even be able to unscrew the fan from the replacement and screw it into your current heatsink. Some of them are identical in the way they are setup. Would be easier than replacing the whole thing.

I tried local stores in manhattan and none of them had it.

The fan I have now doesn't have a separate heatsink. The fan is joined to/embedded in the heatsink, so both come off together.

But for the time being I'll leave the heatsink on and the fan not running.
