Looking for the best wireless router money can buy, under $300. what are my options? Was looking at the Asus RT-AC66u. Any business class routers that are better. Need something with exceptional range and speed.
I just installed the Asus AC66U this weekend. It's an impressive router. It's loaded with great features, signal is great, flashable with 3rd party Firmware if you want to use them. significantly more RAM than most other routers (256MB) and outstanding throughput. It's fully compatible with all WiFi standards and I am getting around 400MB (reliably) on it using a WD AC Bridge to my upstairs network.
I have been testing connecting to my WHS 2011 box with it all day. WHS is easily getting double the upload speed consistantly over the FIOS supplied Actiontech router I was using. I was only getting about 10Mb (out of 25) with the FIOS router when downloading from my server remotely. I am getting the full 25Mb with the Asus router.
I would go with the AC66U over the N66U just for the option of the .11AC ability. The price difference is only $15 on amazon and the WiFi speed with AC is impressive as hell.
