If you can save up another $50 or $60 I'm pretty sure you can get a 7800GT in the FS/FT forum.

Stock performance

I don't know what overclocking would change if you plan on doing that with watercooling.

Generally I've read the X800XL isn't a good overclocker, but I've also seen accounts to the contrary.

i had a x800xl and i was able to overclock it about 50mhz on core and ram each. but the card is now dead, and i was just wondering if, since i had bought the card about 6-8 months ago, if any other cards had come out in my price range that were better.

You can get an eVGA 7800 GT + SLI Mobo for $360 - thats my suggestion. Sell the mobo after you get it.

I highly suggest the 6800 GT for advanced HDR. I just started using HDR on Far Cry and Ill tell you, I wouldnt go back. Its simply 2x as gorgeous compared to no-HDR.

IMO the best video card deals would be finding someone on forums selling a 6800GT or 6800 ultra. People sell 6800 GT's for around $230-$250max on a regular basis. I myself just bought a BFG 6800GT the other day for $250 shipped. Id shoot for a BFG or eVGA card, because both have a lifetime warranty.

If you are interested in a BFG 6800 GT AGP. I know someone selling one for $230 shipped on Hardocp forum. LMK. People have sold some ultras pretty low as well. Like $270-$300. Everyone is upgrading to 7800GT's and GTX's, which makes good deals for others.

There is also a ebay/paypal coupon that is 10% off, so if you find someone on forum to list it on ebay for you real quick, you can get $25 max off.
