Been with dixiesystems for about 6 or 7 years now but their service has deteriorated to the point where i need to look for new hosting. My email has experienced intermittent disconnections since november and their efforts to resolve it have been minimal. Wondering if you guys have any recommendations for other hosting companies? I need a reseller account to host my customers. Called rackspace but their prices are absolutely ridiculous.

Looking for both cheap linux hosting and good asp.net/IIS hosting.

- search before you post
- man you just missed out on such and such's deal on hosting
- Try the friendly atot hoster, he can give ya what ya need...

thanks chiwawa. Yeah i did a search but none of the other posts seemed to be reseller accounts. And because im hosting client websites, i need decent support and uptime. No hosting with 3000 other domains on one box and daily downtime.

Called rackspace but their prices are absolutely ridiculous.

If you're looking for cheap why did you call one of the most expensive over rated web hosts (Rackspace)? That's like looking for a Toyota but calling Mercedes Benz for a quote on a $100,000 car?

Looking for both cheap linux hosting and good asp.net/IIS hosting.

AFAIK Dixiesys.com doesn't offer Linux and ASP hosting, correct?

Are you sure that you need ASP/Windows hosting because it isn't cheap.

1) What's your current plan with Dixiesys? Disk space, bandwidth and price you're paying?

2) Which control panel would you prefer or does it matter? Dixiesys.com uses DirectAdmin which isn't as popular as cPanel. If you're ok with cPanel then that opens the door to hundreds of other web hosts. If you do switch to cPanel, most web hosts won't transfer your existing sites if you're not using the same control panel.

If you've never used cPanel and would like to try it out, I can offer you a free cPanel resellers account to test out. All I need is your email address and it'll take me about 2 minutes to get it up and running.

3) How much disk space and bandwidth are you looking for? Budget?

4) I'm not sure what your budget is but here's another idea.

If you can afford $22.50/mo (prepaid 6 months @ $134.82) I would consider a VPS which offers:
  • 20GB disk space
  • 150GB bandwidth per month
  • Your choice of cPanel/WHM, DirectAdmin or Plesk.
If you choose DirectAdmin the VPS host will assist you in transferring your files from Dixiesys.
  • 3 IP's
  • Root access with SSH
  • Powerful servers equipped with Dual Core Xeon Woodcrest Processors (4 Cores Total), 8 GB Registered ECC RAM, and RAID 10 drive configuration.
  • Think of a VPS as a mini-dedicated server that is more poweful than a resellers account. In fact a VPS is similiar to a dedicated server and you can create your own reseller accounts. You choose how much disk space/bandwidth each reseller account is given.

5) What's more important to you? Reliability and uptime or price?

FH is top notch and they offer dual platform resellers accounts but they start at $44.95/mo.

It's worth every penny if you're looking for the best of the best. Like you said you get what you pay for.

I remember recommending FH to Adul back in the day ;)

Adul still has his web space but it's been over run by bots. He met a girl one day... ;)

DJFuji,

It was a pleasure speaking with you on Skype.

It's clear that a VPS is overkill for your needs, so I would recommend a DirectAdmin reseller account.

Two suggestions are SCHostPro.com and HostPC.com. The owners of both hosting companies are AT members, weird, 'eh?

Remember to search WHT for reviews of both web hosts including the good, the bad and the ugly.

For Windows/ASP web hosting I would recommend JodoHost.com which offers 750MB/10GB starting at $6.95/mo.

If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to call me on Skype (username: RossyRoss)

If RossMAN was an attractive blonde woman in my age range I'd marry "her".

I don't know if everybody is aware of how lucky we are to have him around. Thanks again RossMAN!

(I really can't count how many times I have used his advice.)

I just signed up. Hopefully they are as good as everybody says. I've been on three servers that have gone out of business - hopefully this one lasts a while. :)

Ross,

Thanks once again for your amazing help on sorting through all of this. I just signed up for a kick ass account with jodohost. Unlimited domains and 3 gigs of space running dual windows/linux for < $20 a month.

Let me know if you ever need anything.

Thanks Rossman!

Just got all switched over to SLhost. The switch was a major pain, but they were very helpful through all of it. Ended up with a level 2 VPS account- a little more than I wanted to spend, but one of my sites has grown quite a bit in '07 apparently, and I needed more disk space - since more bandwidth is also nice, I went ahead and upgraded to level 2.

:)
