need new psu?

Been planning an upgrade, after being out of the loop for a while, and noticed the MSI P35-FR has an 8 pin 12v power connector.

I have an old but once great Antec Truepower 430w, which has the old 20pin + 4pin 12v ATA connectors.

Do I need a new PSU?

(edit: will be ending up with a E8400 [or Q6600] with a moderate oc, MSI P35-FR, 7800GTX, 2xHDD 1xDVD)

If you want to overclock I would go for something with the 8pin

8pin just provides more current for the CPU

Not to mention the MSI probably has a 24 pin connector also which you would need.

I found an adapter to take 20->24pin and the 4pin + 2 molex to the 8pin.

I'm thinking I'll get them as a short term solution and buy a new PSU, HSF and case next time I feel like rewarding myself.

I nearly nuked the budget and got them now but the HSF cant be delivered tomorrow.

Unless your motherbaord actually won't boot with the 20-pin connector (which would be the result of a design flaw), such an adapter is a waste of money. It would marginally increase resistance between the power supply and motherboard, which is the opposite of what you want.

and the 4pin + 2 molex to the 8pin.

This one is not a waste of money, although in many cases you can get away with just using the 4-pin.
