need new power supply

I'm still running an old 300 PII system and the power supply is going to the crapper. The fan bearings spin pretty loud and now, after I shut down, the ON light is still lit up on my tower. Also, I get a beep when I switch the main power on. My question is, how do I figure out what type of replacement to buy?

Just take a look at the connector that plugs into the motherboard. You'll most likely have an ATX power supply. The ATX power supply will have one single connector, while the AT power supply has 2 separate connectors that plug into the motherboard. This is how they basically look like:

AT:

Hope this helps.

Yes, buy a good brand and high wattage, as powersupplies will stay current for a few years. ( unlike everything else ) I would get a 400 watt or higher unless you find a good deal on a 300.
