Need new phone line. Will it slow down DSL?

Hello,
I plan on running a new phone line in my home and tying it into the phone line that comes into my house from the street. In my basement there is a small box that splits the cables up. Right now there are 2 wires so with the new one there will be 3 total. My question is when you ties in more lines does it impact DSL speeds?

Thanks

It shouldn't, no. I'm assuming the box you're talking about is a punch-plate kind of thing, where you can splice in extra lines like that. There isn't much danger of lowering your DSL speed by doing that, if you're really worried though yank out the line coming into your house and replace it with a newer/better quality cable. I pulled all the lines in my old place and redid it with CAT5, since the line coming in was about 45 years old and was all rotted out, which did in fact effect my DSL service.

You know about adding DSL line filters, right?
That is: inside of the splitter box, you include a line filter for the POTS line.
The dedicated DSL line is not filtered.
And depending on the age of the incoming phone line, you may want to have the phone company
check for line quality to the point where it connects to your splitter box.

It will not as long as you filter any phone devices that are on the line. The only way it could impact the speed is if there is a short or some other defect on the new line that will introduce interference.

I do DSL installations for a living- you're good.

Ahh, Fritzo, since you are an expert I have another question. I have 2 corded phones in my home that work fine for about 30 seconds, and then massive static kicks in on the lines. I also have 1 cordless phone and that DOES NOT happen on that line. Plus, the cordless and 1 corded both share the same phone line (it is split into 2 jacks). I have no idea why this happens do you have any insight? All phone lines have a DSL filter plugged into the jack..

Thanks

Does the problem disappear if you turn your DSL modem off?
