Having problems it appears with my current motherboard and I need a replacement.
I was hoping to get some feedback and recommendations for a new C2D board.

Setup:

C2D = E6600
2gig RAM = still looking, but probably DDR2 800, 6400
ATI x1900xtx 512mb vid card
(2) 320gig SATA Seagate drives
(1) DVD Burner

I was looking at the MSI P6N SLI Platinum

Are their other good choices/options?
May OC a little, but not a lot.

Looking for a very stable board, with good cooling and space.

Other options are welcomed.

Cheers,

TCG-

that's the one that i'm looking into, it's the 1st atx midrange recommendation here:

http://forums.anandtech.com/me...=2067695&enterthread=y

also, it's the stripped down version of the board you're looking for, so if it has enough features for you i would just save some $ and go with this one.

i don't know the specifics of motherboard support for penryn, since i don't keep up with intel stuff quite that much, but i'm pretty sure nf6 boards will be good to go; can anyone confirm this?

Cool...thanks

sure. also it *will* at least support the new fsb 1333 chips.

EDIT: lol

What are the issues with the DS3? IP35-E is a very stable board capable of 488-500MHz FSB with a tiny bump in VTT, Vnorthbridge, and Vsouthbridge. Board runs cool with 100% Japanese caps. No need for heat pipe cooling. The board's fan control is one of the best in the industry, capable of driving a large 120 x 38 mm Panaflo. Cost is around $105 AR. No problem running the next generation of Intel CPU.

Spend another $20 for the IP35 if you need RAID.

If you want to save more $, then go with the EVGA 650i. It's good only for a mild overclock. You'll need additional cooling @ the NB/SB if you want to push the board above 300MHz FSB. All 650i run HOT. The IP35s are more stable and easier to overclock.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Not quite sure what is going on with my current rig, but here is a quick synposis.

When playing games like BF2142 or Company of Heroes, seems like I can play for anywhere from 5-45 minutes, then the PC just locks up. Sometimes, it kicks me out to the desktop, but 99% of the time I have to hardboot the PC...somtimes, while gaming, the game starts to stutter, then quickly locks up....drives me nuts.

I thought it was heat, but I did a stress test of my ATA x1900xtx card (which is cooled by a thermalright HR-03 with 90mm fan blowing down onto the GPU), using ATITool, and temps did not get above 75 C.

CPU is cooled with a Thermalright CPU Cooler and 120mm fan on top.

I thought it could be the motherboard or the memory...but its hard to diagnose the issue.
I ran memtest (http://www.memtest.org) and it ran overnight with no errors....so I am a little confused.

Anyone have a idea on what could be causing the problem?
Desktop use has no problems.

Thx

Probably some sort of video driver conflict. Could also be RAM or PSU. Did you clean-installed windows? What is the model number of your PSU? Any issue with other games? Run Orthos Large mode/TAT for several hours to check for stability. Do the same with S&M (full test of CPU and RAM). If okay, then you may want to try an older video driver.

You may need to strip the board from the case, wipe the HDD, remove battery and reflash latest BIOS, reset CMOS, and retest with only the problem game added to the HDD.

I'll do that.

What is the S&M utility? Not sure about that one.

My guess would be: hot Northbridge chip. Get a Thermalright H-05 Northbridge cooler,
plus a small 60 mm cooling fan using zip ties.
