Ok i want to upgrade my computer.

I need a good motherboard (not into OC so stable is good) that has AGP (have a 9800 pro and would rathe rnot upgrade). Now i'm not sure what i want to buy. Have yet to figure out if i wat intel or AMD (usually buy amd) or what speed etc.

I also need the cpu and memmory.

oh and a case +power supply.

Its been a few years since i have even looked at motherboards. so i have NO idea what brands or models are great. Also have that problem with CPU's.

I'm sorry to sound like a newb heh.

what do you use it for, primarily?

if you're mostly a gamer, go amd. you don't intend to overclock, so get a 3200+ on the 939. motherboard....hmmm. gigabyte, asus, and msi are the major players. i've heard both gigabyte and asus are the most stable (although all of them are pretty comparable). gigabyte is limited in it's overclocking. personally, i perfer asus. they seem to really cater to the enthusiast in every respect. memory, get a gb of ocz plat. rev. 2 or crucial ballistix (that's 2 x 512). if you're on a tight budget, pdp makes a gb pack for about 170, that should keep short timings, and since you don't intend to overclock, i'd recommend that. case.... thermaltake tsunami hands down. psu.... antec, thermaltake, really any tier one psu maker will be sufficent. i'd go with 400w or better, just to be safe.

intel.... hmmm the 2.8c paired with the asus 655tx via chipset. anandtech showed it to perform on par with the 865/875 equivalent, and about 10 - 20 dollars cheaper. although 775 is the new socket, 478 should remain competitive for time to come. the 2.8c (northwood) is gonna go down as one hell of a good processor. and if you do decide to overclock.... don't be suprised to reach in the 3.4 - 3.6 range.

good luck!

oooo.... really tight budget?

the 2800+ newcastle, chaintech vnf 3, antec sonata, gb of pdp, and the psu is up to you.

all in all... that's the beauty of technology and competition. they are all comparable products. and unless you're a benchmark junky, you really will be happy with whatever you choose. if you intend to game, go amd. if you do compiling, encoding and don't like to wait for that stuff while gaming, a HT enable p4 might be the best idea. i suggest a walk through of the anandtech reviews. familiarize yourself with the current options, decide what exactly is your main goal (price and functionality), and go from there. narrow it down to three choices from each catagory and google the piss out of them until you're satisfied you made an informed decision based on YOUR needs. and watch out for the fanboys. this place is crawling with them.

You're going to want a reasonably nice power supply no matter what processor you go with. A 350W Antec PSU would be sufficient but a no-name 350 would be worthless. I don't really buy into the whole power supply thing until I broke down and bought a nice one (ThermalTake 480, ~$60) and my system stability increased dramatically. My old PSU would just randomly reboot my computer occasionally if I tried to open the DVD software or something.

It's a little more than $0.02 but I hope it helps.

2 DDR 512 DDR400 PC3200 $77 each (newegg deal of the day)
1 wirless lan pci (for my wife's computer. she wants her own office) $19

200gb hdd's are going for around 80 after MIR. there's always good deals on 7200's. go to www.techdeals.net, they always have listings regarding hdd's, blank media, and other stuff.
