got my new monitor and i have to say, im a bit disappointed. only because the very limited resolutions. sometimes ide like to have more then the native resolution but it looks like you cant. i might think of returning this and opting for the higher res dell. and it isnt that much softer on my eyes, as much as i thought it would. but im gonna give a few days and let myself adjust and get used to it.

im back to deciding between 2005fpw and L90D

Perhaps the video card issue has not been appropriately emphasized. The 2005FPW is a widescreen monitor. This means that its resolution is 1600x1020. The chances of your current video card supporting this resolution are slim.
If you are using the correct drivers for your card (manufacturer's drivers), You can check your card's resolution by:

Assuming you are using XP:

1) Right-click on a blank space (not on an icon) on your desktop
2) On the resulting menu, left click on properties
3) The Display Properties dialog will appear. Click on the "Settings" tab.
4) In the "Screen Resolution" box (left side about 2/3 down), note the slider.
5) With your mouse, left click on the slider and drag it all the way to the right (with color quality set to its highest, presumably 32 bit).
6) The resolution displayed under the slider is the highest resolution your card will handle.

7) Click on cancel to make the Display properties window go away, returning your settings to their original state.

With an LCD, it is important that your card support the "native" resolution of the monitor. Running your LCD at anything other than its native res results in a significant reduction in quality.

I myself prefer the Dell 2001 FP with a native res of 1600x1200. I have yet to buy one because I am awaiting the end of the quarter when Dell starts slashing prices. It has been said that this monitor can be found at quarter's end (October) for around $400 (with coupon codes). The 2005FPW has less vertical space (around the same as a 17" monitor), although it is an inch or two wider. The 2001FP has more screen area and supports a more widely used resolution.

The Dell 2001 FP seems to have a notorious screen door effect, not present on the 2005FPW and they are about the same price.

Just my thought

Can't you just increase font size to counteract the text size you are talking about with the 2005?
Mid you could have also used Pricegrabber / Newegg filters to see all the 8 ms response time monitors.
