Hi there,

I am currently using a laptop equipped with a X600 graphics card. I am looking for a new laptop for this upcoming Christmas and I am wondering which video card is generally better than the others. If its possible, it would be great if there is a list of mobile video cards that I can have access to of the card ratings.

Thanks a lot for your time.

What's your budget and what size computer are you looking at?

Basically works like this for DirectX 10 mobile cards:

8700M GT > 8600M GT >> 8600M GS >/= HD 2600 > 8400M GT > 8400M GS > 8400M G =/> HD 2400

I guess anything under $2000 is fine. I don't want to spend excessive amount. Also.... are there any brands that one might look into?

For laptops with decent GPU's, Asus, Dell, and HP won't break the bank. Other companies that design laptops specifically for gaming though (Dell XPS, IBuyPower, Sager, etc..) will cost you quite a bit more.

Brainonska has the new Dx10 GPU hierarchy dead on. So judge performance from there.

Asus is a definitely a great brand to go with.

Take a look at the G series notebooks if you want something geared towards gamers.
Certain F series notebooks should be good too, but be warned, the F-series notebooks that use the 8600M series chip do not have G-DDR3, they use slower, G-DDR2.

The U3 and the F9 are good choices to look at if you want some serious portablility with the power of a dedicated GPU (of course, it won't be playing games at the settings an 8600M GT would play).

Finally, don't worry too much about how much RAM the computer comes with - it's better to upgrade that on your own - 2GB tends to be what most people aim for.
