Need New Desktop Speakers

Please recommend me new speakers for my desktop. I've currently got an Altec Lansing 2.1 system that I used to love, but it isn't playing nicely with my on-board audio through digital coax (see signature for system specs).

I'm not sure what the problem is: the speakers or the on-board audio/coax. When I go into my audio settings and change the output away from 16 bits/44100 Hz and then back again it works fine for another 2 hours to 1 day. Very odd. I plan to plug the new speakers into the standard RCA jacks to change both variables in the sound quality equation.

I'd like a 2.0 speaker system if it has very good bass, or a 2.1 system if the 2.0 option isn't practical (bass-wise). My budget is ~$120, but flexible.
 
I am currently using a set of Behringer MS40's and they sound fantastic and have very good bass. They are $129 on amazon I paid a bit less but forget where I got them. The nice thing about them is they have two lines with independent volume control so I can run both my computer and xbox through them at the same time.
