My current phone, a month old Panasonic KX-TG2247S (has digital answering machine, but not speaker phone on base), is getting returned (for the 2nd and final time). Although I like the phone the battery life (on both phones) has been horrible (bad batch maybe?). After letting the phone charge up for 15 hours, per the manuel, I get less than 3 days of "stand by" battery life (11 advertised), and the phone takes almost 20hrs to charge (going from flashing batt indicator to a full charge).

I really like the phone, but I can't deal w/such a crappy battery.

Have you thought about buying a new battery for it?

Most cordless phones i've seen come w/ cruddy Ni-Cad batteries. They sell NiMH batteries for cell phones at Radio Shack and Best Buy.

That is, if you really like the phone itself.

I have had no problems with my Panasonic 900MHz cordless phone although I have been quite weary of their 2.4GHz phones.

Uniden and Toshiba (hard to find for a reasonable price) are excellent cordless phones.

CostCo sells a pretty sweet Uniden setup, with 2 cordless phones, base unit, dual keypad, for a very nice price.

Last weekend, Fry's L.A. sold the Uniden TRU 3485 for $50.

It's a 2.4 GHz (previous gen AFAIK) phone with digital answerer, caller ID and speakerphone in the base. A while back, I bought the TRU 3465 (without digital answerer) for $50 at Fry's. The handset is a bit larger than the current models I see these days but the weight is good. Reception is good, standby time is a week and talk time is great (manual says 6 hours). Charge time is probably 12 hours or so (no battery or charge time indicators on this model). The thing I like about the battery life is I leave the phone out of the base for the full week, even though most phones recommend otherwise.

The only two beefs with this phone are that it's not wall-mountable (speakerphone in the base afterall) and it sometimes interferes with 802.11b WiFi. The base for the 3485 does look a bit confusing (many buttons) at a glance, with the extra functionality.

Overall, highly recommended but it only has a NiCD battery like all cordless phones I've seen.

That's a great price.

I got a 2.4 Ghz Motorola phone and it's pretty cool, the battery life is GREAT. The only complain is when you dial it doesnt beep loud enough, or if it can I havent figured out how to do it yet... I got it for like $30.00 after OM 20 off 50 rebate.

Yeah when my old phone broke down (turns out I simply busted the new battery), I found the Uniden on sale at Fry's and the price sold itself.

Granted it's the previous generation model, but for the feature set and quality, I don't think you could get anything better for around $50. Good 2.4 GHz models w/o speakerphone or answerer usually go for around there (I'm purposely excluding the cheap $20 after MIR POS analog phones that are ubiquitous nowadays).

Hey, my VTech works great, my son put it in the dishwasher, and the dishwasher was ran and everything. It still works like a charm. Guess I got a good one. Has been the only phone I can hear anyone on while talking to them too.
