Ok, ive been posting and reading and posting :p

I've decided its time, so now its just time to pick a board for a cheap price.

I think I better upgrade my 1700+ since it's on a K7S5A and it is a early one that wont OC. I am going to movie it over onto my wifes P3 800 which should be one heck of an upgrade for her at this point. First off I'm a budget gamer so price/performance ratio is king for me. I am not a bleeding edge kind of guy, I have no cash for it.

Now my question is:

In this situation is it a good time to go for something like a barton 2500+ ? is it a good time to buy this? I need to goa CHEAP upgrade route and want the best bang for my buck because I am going to need to get a 9700 probably non pro for my 17000+ box.

So.. I have 512 MB of crucial pc2100 and 512 mb of crucial pc2700

I cannot afford to upgrade ram as well. I will probably use the pc2700 for now whilst leaving the pc2100 on the 1700+ ECS

I want a board that is under 100$ definitley. I do NOT need ANY onboard features. I will never use raid, or onboard sound (I have an Audigy 2) Power is not a problem I have an Antec 430 W TRUEpower. And I will be getting an ATI card 9700 probably.

I have plenty of LAN cards so I dont even care about onboard LAN.

Dual channel would be nice for the future, and it needs decent OC options for the barton OC. Also SATA would be nice for the future but I wont be using it now.

Thanks!

ps I really want it fairly cheap. but with good oc options

If no one responds (upgrade-question fatigue ;) ) you can search "budget" for several dozen similar "which XP mobo?" threads

Can't go wrong with a Barton 2500+ and an NF7-S for $113 shipped (for the motherboard) if you want SATA and firewire. NF7 for $93 if you don't.

I have searched a bit, but nothing really helped as of yet. Ill keep looking

The NF-7 s is a great board but a little overpriced imho. I dont need the firewire, but WOULD like SATA... hmmm

The DFI NF 2 Ultra AL looks good, but no one seems to be talking about it.

The DFI board is nice, but expensive.

I recommend the Asus A7N8X-Deluxe though (it has SATA-RAID)

Ill look into that. Although RAID is not anything I am concerned with in the near future if ever. It just wouldnt be worth the cost for me.

The DFI is expensive, but it has some compelling features. Great performance, all the round cables, even the carrying strap is something I would like to have when lugging my Antec 1080 AMG
