For agp the x800xl and 6800gt are almost the same price, you might as wel take the 6800gt - it has sm3, for all it's worth. (just ask hans)

They should all have the same "chipset" (core) and DDR3 vid ram.

Diff between brands is cooling, service, and maybe warranty. OCing too, but that's always a gamble anyway, if you're into that.

Stay away from XFX.

Get either a BFG 6800GTOC or an eVGA 6800GT on the Nvidia side
Get either a Sapphire X800XL or a Built by ATI X800XL on the ATI side.

Outpost has a BFG 6800OC for $199, Best Buy has a BBATI X800XL AGP for $299, and newegg has a Leadtek 6800GT for $299.

Personally, I've heard questionable things about Leadtek's current support (I can't confirm that with evidence, but I'm fairly sure it only has a one year warranty), so I'd pick the X800XL for the BBATI 3-year warranty.

It depends on what res you run games at. If you have an LCD that limits you at 1024x768 or 1280x1024, get the BFG and try to unlock. If you can and do run at 1600x1200, the X800XL might be a worthy move up.
