If PC Power and Cooling rated their PSU's on the same scale as Antec, FSP, Zippy, etc their 510 would actualy be a 650watt.

Should I also mention that the voltage regualtion is spot on and never budges when put underload.

http://www.pcpowercooling.com/products/viewproduct.php?show=T51SLI

btw thats any kind load you throw at it.

Well I guess it's down to either the PC Power 510ASL $229 (this is the one w/ a 8pin connector for my mobo)

or the Xclio 750w $189..

BTW Whe OEM's PC Power & Cooling psu's ? I know channell well does Antec, Xclio

Jose

Come on. You think they specify the peak output and not the continuous output?

I don't believe most of the specs they all use.

BTW , the PC Power & Cooling 510ASL w/ cable mod to remove/replace sata w/ molex connectors would cost me $270 ..... insane.....

I could buy 2 - Powerstream 520's for $250 ...

Anyway, I just got off the phone w/ tech support from PC Power & Cooling and they said I'd be right at the max of the 510w psu with what I already have, and that If I got another video card and 2 more scsi drives , the 510w would not cut.

So I doubt any of the 500+ models that ppl have recomended would work.. If a PC P&C 510w barley makes it , I don't think any of the other single psu's would either..

So here's my choices:

1- PC Power & Cooling 510ASL $270 (no upgrade potential)

2- Xclio 750w $189 (un proven)

3- Buy addl. OCZ Powerstream 520w $120 (use w/ current antec550w, dual psu sys)

4- PC P & C 850w $450 (price says it all, I will accept donations to fund my upgrade) 😉

BTW my system is running but not consistently .

Jose

Most of the no-name sparkley types.

Well, I decided to use a canon instead of a gun, tired of playing around.

I got the Zippy 6701P 700w 45A psu for $280 I'll be able to run anything w/ this psu...

Thanks everyone for the help.

Jose

I never thought I would be saying this but that Zippy he bought is the Bomb!!
Can`t be touched!!!
Also mind you that 700watts is @40c. Very good PSU!!!
No frills all buisness!! Just like my PC Power & Cooling PSU`s!!!
Only in my opinion Zippy plain kicks ASS!!!

Keep us informed dude how you like it!!
The only drawback is how long it is. Yet- that length will be the wave of the future!!

Nice choce!! 🙂

It's real heavy, 11 lbs. It will fit nicely in my CM Stacker case at the bottom section.

I've used the same psu in a server build. It was powering a dual Opeteron w/ 4gigs and 8 - 15K scsi drives.

Only down side is the noise the 8 scsi drives make.. It's a high pitch squel, sort of like a jet engine . 😉

Here's some pics: sorry about the poor quality ..

I think buying a trusted Brand name PSU is more important than buying a PSU that has more wattage but that is also unproven. I would go with the any of the following brands:

In order of reliability IMO:
PC&P
Enermax
Fortron
OCZ

ZIPPY is on par or at least the equal to whatever any of the above put out!!

Zippy is by far better than 99.99% of the psu's out today. It's really a server/workstation class psu.

If you deal w/ real server/workstation builds , you'd know Zippy..

The reason it's not known by many is that it's not your cheap bang for your buck design.. It can run even w/out the fan..

The only psu close to the zippy is the PC Power & Cooling 850/1000w psu's and those are multi rail designs.

GalvanizedYankee, Too late, I really wanted the new Zippy PSL 6720P or the PSL 6600P but I couldn't find them anywhere. But thanks..

Jose

Well...................

Got the zippy/emacs 700w .. very nice psu. BUT ..... it's to frigging loud ... Sounds like a Jet Engine....

This is a server only psu.....

I put back my antec550EPS , and ordered a OCZ 520 Powerstream. Hope it works.

Jose

BTW, I talked to a FSP rep the other day and their FSP FX700-GLN is actually rated 700w at 40C, not 25C as stated in their spec sheet. And it's rated 650w at 50C (so from 40C to 50C it looses only 5w per C, not 10w). And, he said, the "official" max load of 15A on each 12V is understated as well, it's actually 18A (like the Xclio). He said, "they registered it as 15A when they applied for safety certificates but will update it for the next version."

I don't know why FSP does this, but they've always been notoriuos at underating many of their top line PSUs.

Update,

I got the new OCZ Powerstream 520w SLI psu and installed it. Guess what ? It did the same thing as my Antec.

No POST screen on initial cold boot. So..... I up'd the voltage on the 12v rail and presto, problem solved.

All is fine in the world. 🙂

Upping voltages always scares me! 🙂 I was also thinking of the Xclio PSU. I have more stuff in my system than you (6 HDS, SLI'ed 7800GTs, 7 fans, 2 burners, X-fi, RAID card, 7 USB devices) and I have an Aspire Concord 500w job and many splitters and i'll be damned, everything works! I still want to get a much more powerful PSU cuz I just know this 500w job is gonna blow one day. I need to do more research on the Xclio 750w. 4 rails seems real nice. Glad you are up and running!

WTF why they gotta fvck around with their spec sheets like that 🙁

So what's up with this unit?
4x18A should be more than enough, even for a Opty@3GHz+X1900CF+4x15k SCSI+2x12v pumps+etc setup... and that 140mm fan hopefully make it quite a quiet unit... 😉

I have the xclio 450. It's been just fine. That 500w xclio on the Egg is the best deal around right now, imo.

As for them being made by Channel Well, well, I'm not so sure. I've heard that, and when I researched it, it seemed that XCLIO was actually made by Young Year, which is supposed to be rather low-end. I dunno for sure tho, it's been awhile since I investigated.

To me, the XCLIO GREATPOWERs are overpriced, since they are unproven, and what the other XCLIOs have going for them is the low cost.

On 10/2005 XClio was OEMed by FSP Group, a bit better than CWT imnsho.
I have no idea if FSP Group still builds'em.

...Galvanized

I just read through the whole thread and it reminded me of one of my friends. He's running a system on an Antec 430W PSU (my old one) that according to several PSU calculators I've seen should be on a 500W or larger PSU 😀 that thing has some guts, I'm impressed. Been running that way for quite some time now, no voltage fluctuations, no overheating, nothing.

I hope upping the voltage on the 12V rail won't be a problem in the long run - did you measure what the output of the rail is with a DMM?
