I'm trying to put together a book that is 8.5 x 5.5. Basically I just want to have a word document that is 8.5 x 11 in landscape with two columns. This part I can do without a problem. What I have trouble with is putting page numbers at the beginning of each column. So, page 1 would just have a "1" at the bottom of the right column, as the left column is blank. Page 2 would have "2" and "3" at the bottom of the left and right columns, respectively. Does anyone know how to do this?

I think you will have to jury rig this solution. Start by creating a blank document. Number the ODD pages individually left justified (i don't think MS lets you choose to number 1,3,5, etc..), and print just the blank page and even page number. Then load those pages back into your printer, and print the actual document, with each page individually numbered with the appropriate EVEN number right justified. It will be a bitch, but it can be done.

Hmm... I thought of that but I'd like to come up with a legit way of doing it if possible. Any other ideas?

You could just smoke and mirror it. Insert a footer that contains the needed numbers for that page, but you will have to change the footer for each page, printing one page at a time.

actually go:

FILE>SETUP

select Margins tab, check off 2 pages per sheet, set to landscape, remove double column. and then alternate inside/outside page numbers.

should work...
