Need moving Help?

So I will be moving from Chicago to Washington DC on July 1st, and i am looking for the easiest cheapest way possible. Cheap is probably more important than easy. I have a car and a one bedroom apartment's worht of stuff to move. Very little furniture though that I am taking with. Just a desk, and maybe a bed, and maybe a small dresser. I was looking at renting a Uhaul truck and then towing my car behind it but that will be about $1100. If I try to tow a Uhaul trailer it will be cheaper, but then I will need to have a hitch installed on my Mazda Protege. Any ideas? Are there any companies that will deliver a large crate for you to fill up and then they move/ship it for you. I don't mind paying a compnay to transport the stuff so I don't have to, but I do not want to pay movers to actually carry the stuff in and out of my apartment. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get the job done? I appreciate all ideas, thanks. Remember, I want this to be as cheap as possible.

This looks interesting, anyone have any idea how much it costs? No prices on their website.

give them a call...im sure they would be MORE than happy to tell you...
but when my bro moved from Chicago to DC we just did the Uhaul thing (the truck)
Its a lot easier, may not be cheaper...but you can control the move and makes for a lot less hassle overall

If I chose to rent a truck, does anyone have recomendation for which company? Looks like my options are Uhaul and Budget, any others?

Budget. UHaul is much more likely to screw you over on your reservation than Budget.

Do make sure you get the right size truck. Try not to go too big, but be aware that people usually underestimate when looking at their 'stuff'. Gas for that truck is going to be a large cost, too.

I did a move using a Budget truck two years ago from Indianapolis area to Phoenix. The truck rental was $1100 then.

Penske using a AAA discount. It was much cheaper than budget and uhual even with the cost of aaa membership for me when I moved from TX to VA last year.

My advice concerning rental was from experience. I had an online brokerage in '01~'03.
I don't know who will treat you best, or whether you should get a truck or a trailer. All I know and can tell you with absolute certainty is figure it out by next Friday at the very latest, and that might even be cutting it close.
Get your friends to help pack and load, bribe them with Pizza first, and beer when it is done🙂
