Dear helpful folks of AT,

I need the 1990 software used to program Motorola Radius M100 radios.
Our Win98 machine we use to program old FM radios died last night, and the floppy (made back in 1991) no longer installs the software correctly.

The Motorola folks dont support anything that old, they would prefer we buy new radios and new software to go with them.
Nobody seems to keep software from back in those days.

I'll certainly google to my delight and check out sites if you can provide some more details.

Is there a program name?!?

Any other specifics?

I tried googling too. Everybody just has links to motorolas official site. No one seems to carry the actual DOS based apps.

Its called M100 CPS software.

I did finally get a call back from the Govt sales rep. They want $410 for 15 year-old software which is NEEDED to make an obsolete radio work.

I guess I am assed out.

Sorry to hear that. Was the floppy copy-protected, or can we kick you while you're down for not making a backup of it?

I'd try directly contacting all the radio shops you can find, online and B&M.

Yup, I saw this. The problem is nobody actually has THE software available. It would seem you can only get it through motorola. Which is BS.

And I did make a backup to CD of all our floppy based programming software.
The GP300, the P200, HT1000, M100, CT-250 and a few others.

My supervisor got a big boner several weeks ago about cleaning junk out of the shops.
I came in one day to find Mark and William trashing my FM shop saying it needed to be straightened up. They were ripping stuff out of my desk at the time.
Sure enough, this afternoon I go to look for the mini-cd I had and it is nowhere to be found.

THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!

It took a little while but I realized something a few hours ago.

I had the rare good forsight to keep all the floppy software on my own computer before I made the mini-cd. I went back home and found it, then made an extra disc for work.
Muchas Gracias for all the good info.

As it is unlikely Motorola will pull their crainium out from their gluteus maximus anytime soon, we can only hope some decent competition will come along in the world of high-end radio communications.

You don't want to buy new radios from motorola (that use new software), but you'd be willing to buy new radios fro ma competitor, simply because they're not motorola?

This is a 10 year old thread asking about what was *at the time* 15 year old software.

If the OP is even a forum member anymore, you're still better off buying new radios.

What works, works. Some companies(the one I work at) don't have extra money for equipment that isn't really needed. While it would be great to get shiny new gear, it wouldn't do much to improve my work flow, especially at a price tag of tens of thousands of dollars.

It's also galling that a company won't come off some software you know they have. If that happened to me, Motorola wouldn't on my list of possibilities when it came time to buy new stuff. OTOH, coming off that antique software would be a goodwill gesture, and they'd shoot to the top of my options list when it was time to buy. Incidentally, this kind of nonsense is why I don't like DRMd proprietary software. I have issues at work with it myself, but have sufficient workarounds. My life would improve with some source code though.

Be advised that /\/\otorola does NOT like people sharing their CPS/RSS. Trust me. You are not even allowed to talk about exchanging their software on Radioreference.com

If anyone comes to this thread in the future check out Batlabs.

If you must ask. If you want a great two-way radio that offers some pretty good privacy and distance. Look no further than an old Nextel i355. These cell phones had two features: Direct Connect & Direct Talk. Direct Connect used the cell towers, but Direct Talk uses the cell phones themselves as a two-way radio. They pump out about 700 mW's, use the 900 MHz band, the modulation scheme is VSLEP and uses FHSS. They are perfectly legal too and will out do a Walmart blister pack Family Radio (FRS). They can be obtained on ebay. I have three myself. They even have accessories on Amazon. To summarize. The i355 is like a Motorola DTR, except they're a fraction of the cost. I was going to mention shorty has become a No Lifer since then, but I guess it isn't necessary.

Welcome aboard.
