Greetings:

It's that time again when I need to build a new pc. I have decided the following:

P4 2.2
512 Rambus
Seagate Scsi HD (15k rpm)
Geoforce 4
Audigy
etc.. etc...

I've read that the Albit TH711 is a sweet board.

Any suggestions, or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have been waiting for the arrival of the Geoforce 4 before I order my system; and anticipate they should be hitting vendors in a week.

Also, I phoned MultiWave and was told that Rambus is aweful and I should use DDR with the P4. This is opposite what I've read, that Rambus is the way to go with P4's. Any comments on this ?

Thanks guys, in advance.

I would go with the Abit board. It seems like it is the top performer, and I've heard of some people getting crazy overclocks with it.

Most people will suggest either ABIT TH7II or Asus P4T-E. I've build two P4 systems with the ABIT TH7II for friends, and I have yet heard one complaint. The ABIT TH7II is also a better overclocker, if you choose to do so. I would suggest the ABIT.

If you're going to overclock, go with the TH7II if not, it's a toss-up. The two boards B/M nearly identical and the only real difference is the TH7II is a better O/C'er and you can reach the overclocks at a lower voltage than with the P4T-E in my expierience and from those others I've talked to. The P4T-E is a fine board as are most Asus's, but, in this instance, and with the Northwoods being such good overclockers, the Abit TH7II just out did Asus in the one area in which a lot of people seem interested in with the Northwoods................Overclocking!;)

Go with TH7II even if you don't have a huge priority on ocing. It's just as stable as P4T-E and ocs better and has RAID optional as well:)

Thanks guys for the feedback. This forum rocks !

ps: Still didn't get a comment on Rambus vs DDR, but I'm fairly confident from what I've read that Rambus is faster with P4.

Thanks again,

Rambus is a viable solution for the P4 let alone the best performer, but only marginally better...
