Just putting together a new computer and wanted some advice on what sort of monitor I should get.

I've had an old 17inch (curved screen) Auriga monitor for a while and it has served me well but I was after maybe a good quality 19inch flat screen for my new computer, or a good quality 17inch. I had my mind set on a 19" CPD-G420 Sony 0.24dpi Flat Display, or maybe a 17" inch variation of the same. There is a fare price difference between the two and was wondering if it?s worth the extra for the 19". Anyone had experiences with these two monitors in particular, or Sony's in general?

Any other recommendations?

Thanks

if price is a concern then a 17" will do

but if you want an upgrade then by all means go to a 19"

i have a 21 and i will never go smaller

your eyes will appreciate the extra screenage as well;)

hope this helps

Get a curved 21' thats what I have. The image quality isn't that great on an LCD. And besides, if you never use one you don't know what your missing! (Me)

I don?t think my budget can extend to a 21" and I don?t really have the desk space. Also I was wondering if those so called lines on the Trinitron?s are all that noticeable?

I have the Sony G420 S.... couldn't be happier with it. If you can afford the price tag (about $400 shipped), go for it.

As far as the lines are concerned, the ONLY time you can see them is on a white background. I can see mine if I look for them on the Anandtech background... but never on any game/application that the background isn't white. And to give you an idea--they're smaller than a single pixel running 1600x1200. The image quality is definitely worth putting up with two lines that you'll probably rarely (if ever) notice--I didn't even see mine until someone mentioned them. :) Best of luck!
