Hi all. Posted this over in general too, but no replies so I thought I'd try here. Well I guess I could have listed this in 1 of several of the forums but this looked like the best. I have a P4 1.4 w\ 512 Rambus ram on a MSI mobo... the other stuff isnt important as Im not looking to change it. First off, I like the system I have now, runs great, no prob's whatsoever, but I have the chance to upgrade it at no cost, so why not right?lol I wanted to go w\ another MSI board and say a 1.9 or 2 ghz chip w\ some 800 rambus ram. (I know many of you are not fans of the Rambus, but its been great for me) anyway.... here's what I am running into and need the advice on.

Most all of the boards I see MSI, Gigabyte etc that take the 1.9, 2 ghz chips have 3 & 4 slot DDR memory slots & ATA 133 and not the Rambus (RIMM) memory slots. The only boards I see that have the Rambus memory slots are ATA 100, not ATA 133.... here's the two main q's 1. Is DDR (PC 2700 version) as fast, or faster than RAMBUS? (remember I have Rambus now & think its great. ) 2. If you recommend I stick w\ Rambus then will the ATA 100 make that much of a difference in spds? The system is used for gaming mostly. I am guessing that the ATA 100 vs 133 I wont see much of a difference to even notice, but I hate to go down in spd, you all know what I mean.lol My main concern is speed & reliability, price between the RAM is not important because its only about $60 difference. One last note, I also know many of you guys like the Athlon's and some would recommend one of those, but Im going to stick w\ Intel and either the DDR or Rambus so if you could just comment on the above items. Thx in advance all! :)

I found the selection is a little better on the DDR boards, never mind the price.

Take the top of the line Gigabyte, for example. It's got Creative Labs 5.1 sound, Promise RAID, USB 2.0.... Of course, 533 FSB and PC2700 support.

I like to look at the "whole package". ;)
